There are 16 games on the NHL schedule for the "NHL Frozen Frenzy" on Tuesday, including three nationally televised in the United States. Here are five things to watch today, along with the complete game schedule.

The streaks go on

Three ironmen will take the ice when the New Jersey Devils travel to face the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena (6 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN+) in the opening game of the "NHL Frozen Frenzy." Detroit forward Alex DeBrincat and defenseman Moritz Seider will extend their consecutive games streak, as will New Jersey forward Dawson Mercer, which are among the highest active runs in the League. DeBrincat is third with 461 consecutive games played, behind Colorado Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns (1,012) and Montreal Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki (542). Seider and Mercer are tied with Columbus Blue Jackets center Charlie Coyle (415). DeBrincat leads the Red Wings (1-3-1) with five points (two goals, three assists) in five games. Jack Hughes leads the Devils (2-3-0) with five points (one goal, four assists) in five games.

Burns chasing records

Along with trying to catch Phil Kessel (1,064) for the NHL consecutive-games record, Burns is a goal away from trying Chris Chelios for the third most scored by a defenseman over 40 and will get a chance when the Avalanche visit the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center (8:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN+, TVAS). The 41-year-old, who is in his 23rd NHL season, has 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) since turning 40. Chelios had 92 points (14 goals, 78 assists) beyond his 40th birthday and retired at age 48. Colorado (3-2-0) is the highest scoring team in the League (5.20 goals per game) and led by Nathan MacKinnon (10 points; five goals, five assists) and Cale Makar (seven points; three goals, four assists), each in five games. Dallas (2-2-1) is led by Mikko Rantanen (six points; two goals, four assists in five games), but announced Monday that Matt Duchene is out three months after the forward had surgery to repair a core injury that bothered him throughout training camp.

Bedard's potential return

Connor Bedard could make his season debut when the Chicago Blackhawks host the Pittsburgh Penguins at United Center (8 p.m. ET; CHSN, SN-PIT). The Chicago captain had surgery on his left shoulder for an injury sustained during an offseason training session in Vancouver on July 2. Bedard, at 21 years and 60 days, was named Blackhawks captain Sept. 15, becoming the second-youngest in team history behind Jonathan Toews (20 years, 79 days). The Blackhawks (1-5-0) could use their top scorer from last season, when Bedard had 75 points (30 goals, 45 assists) in 69 games. He has 203 points (75 goals, 128 assists) in 219 games since he was selected by Chicago with the No. 1 pick in the 2023 NHL Draft. Sidney Crosby has nine points (three goals, six assists) in 11 NHL games for the Penguins (3-2-1) in The Windy City. The captain needs one assist to pass Joe Thornton (1,109) for seventh in League history and two to tie Ray Bourque (1,111 with the Boston Bruins) for the most by a player with a single franchise.

The 800 club

Connor McDavid will play his 800th NHL game when the Edmonton Oilers close out a three-game California road trip against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto.com Arena (10:30 p.m. ET; ABTV, SN1, TVAS). Edmonton's captain has 1,233 points (412 goals, 821 assists) in 799 games and will rank third in NHL history behind Wayne Gretzky (1,892) and Mario Lemieux (1,580) through 800 games. The Oilers (4-0-1) are the only team yet to lose in regulation and have won four in a row since losing their season opener 6-5 in overtime to the Vancouver Canucks on Sept. 29. Evan Bouchard has 12 points (six goals, six assists) in five games for Edmonton and is only the third defenseman with at least 12 points after the first five games of a season. Harry Cameron had 15 points (nine goals, six assists) for the Toronto Arenas in 1917-18, and Morgan Rielly had 12 (three goals, nine assists) for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018-19. The Kings (0-2-2), Philadelphia Flyers (0-5-2) and Calgary Flames (0-5-0) are still looking for their first win.

Overtime winners

The San Jose Sharks are putting in the extra work so far this season, winning all three of their games in overtime. They will get a chance to become one of five teams to start the season with at least four OT wins when they host the Bruins (4-2-0) at SAP Center at San Jose (11 p.m. ET; ESPN, NESN, SN+). Macklin Celebrini will play his second game since the forward returned to the Sharks (3-2-0) after missing two games with a lower-body injury. San Jose's captain has six points (one goal, five assists) in three games this season. Of Boston's four wins, one has come in overtime. Bruins new captain David Pastrnak is leading by example with seven points (two goals, five assists) in six games.
