NHL Buzz: Barkov playing for Panthers against Rangers

Florida Panthers

Aleksander Barkov is playing against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Monday (7 p.m. ET; MSG+, BSFL, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
The center was a game-time decision with a lower-body injury.
Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, a game-time decision because of an upper-body injury, did not dress.
Christopher Gibson
is backing up Spencer Knight.
Barkov and Bobrovsky participated in the morning skate. They did not play for the Panthers (10-0-1) when they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 on Saturday.
Barkov is on a personal five-game point streak (five goals, two assists) and tied with forwards Anthony Duclair and Jonathan Huberdeau for the Panthers lead with 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 10 games.
Bobrovsky is 6-0-0 with a 1.72 goals-against average and .948 save percentage in seven games.
Brunette said forwards Sam Bennett (upper body) and Joe Thornton (undisclosed) are day to day. Each is expected to miss his fourth straight game. -- Dan Rosen

Ottawa Senators

Connor Brown and Dylan Gambrell have been placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol.
Ottawa has four players in protocol: forwards Brown, Gambrell and

. Associate coach Jack Capuano went into protocol Sunday.
The Senators canceled practice Monday out of an abundance of caution.
Brown is third on the Senators with seven points (two goals, five assists) in 11 games. Gambrell has not scored a point in four games.
Forwards
Scott Sabourin
and
Egor Sokolov
were recalled from Belleville of the American Hockey League on Monday. Defenseman
Erik Brannstrom
was recalled from Belleville on Sunday.
"The guys seemed a little down today, obviously, with losing players and guys out with injuries and we haven't been winning, so that's typical," coach D.J. Smith said. "But no one feels sorry for anybody. We'll pick ourselves up, we'll have a good morning skate tomorrow morning, and we'll get ourselves going. We've got to find ways to play 60 full minutes, whether we have some key guys out or not."
The Senators (3-7-1) have lost four in a row and are 1-6-1 in their past eight games. They visit the Boston Bruins on Tuesday. -- Callum Fraser

New York Rangers

Filip Chytil has an upper-body injury and is not playing against the Florida Panthers (7 p.m. ET; MSG+, BSFL, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
The forward is day to day, coach Gerard Gallant said.
Chytil left a 6-0 loss at the Calgary Flames on Saturday in the first period after colliding with teammate Sammy Blais.

New Jersey Devils

Miles Wood will have surgery on his right hip Monday and the forward will be out indefinitely.
"Obviously he's disappointed," coach Lindy Ruff said. "He was really looking forward to this year and to have this come up, it's just part of the game. We exhausted every plan of attack to see if we could get him back to play and really this is where we ended up. It's disappointing, but a resolution to what is going to happen and hopefully he makes a full recovery and gets back as quick as possible."
Wood was injured during a preseason game against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 4 and has not played this season.
He scored 17 goals last season, tied with Pavel Zacha for the Devils lead. -- Mike G. Morreale

Carolina Hurricanes

Antti Raanta was sent back to North Carolina on Sunday to meet with Hurricanes doctors for evaluation of an injury sustained during a 5-2 loss at the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
The goalie left the game in the second period after a collision with Panthers forward Ryan Lomberg.
Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour would not specify the type of injury.
"I just saw him last night after the game and he seemed really good, so I don't know what's going to happen there," Brind'Amour said Sunday. "We sent him home to get evaluated, so we will see where it all leads."
Goalie
Alex Lyon
was recalled from Chicago of the American Hockey League and will be available when the Hurricanes play at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. -- Kurt Dusterberg

Tampa Bay Lightning

Zach Bogosian practiced Monday for the first time since sustaining a lower-body injury Oct. 12.
The defenseman was expected to be out 4-6 weeks. Coach Jon Cooper told the Lightning website that Bogosian is getting closer, and they can start talking about his return after a three-game homestand ends Nov. 15. Tampa Bay visits the Philadelphia Flyers three days later.
Defenseman Andrej Sustr was recalled from Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
