Seven Hurricanes score in win against Islanders

RALEIGH, N.C. -- In a little more than 24 hours, Hurricanes rookie Brock McGinn has figured out how to score points in the NHL.
McGinn had an NHL career-high four points, and Elias Lindholm, Lee Stempniak and Jordan Staal each had three when the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New York Islanders 7-4 at PNC Arena on Saturday for their for their fourth straight win.

McGinn had two goals in a 5-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday, giving him six points in the past two games; he had six points in his first 24 games.
"It's definitely neat," McGinn said. "I didn't want to change my game, even though at the start of the year, the points weren't coming. But I just want to go out and play the same way, and right now they're coming, so I just want to continue that."

Cam Ward made 28 saves for the Hurricanes (21-15-7), who are 14-1-1 in their past 16 home games.
Carolina got a goal from seven players, including three in the third period to break a 4-4 tie.
John Tavares scored two goals for the Islanders (16-17-8), one night after he had a hat trick in a 5-2 win at the Florida Panthers. His second goal tied the game at 4-4.
Stempniak made it 5-4 at 5:42 after Teuvo Teravainen won a faceoff to Stempniak, who beat Thomas Greiss high to the far post.
Teravainen extended the lead to 6-4 at 11:44, redirecting Justin Faulk's shot for his 10th of the season.
Staal put in a rebound of Matt Tennyson's shot at 13:53 to make it 7-4.
"When you play against a fast team that's got a lot of pace, it puts pressure on you to make plays," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "When you go against Staal and some of those big guys, they're going to shoot. But the goals that they scored were preventable."

Tavares scored at 4:16 of the first period to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead. Carolina tied the game at 1-1 when McGinn finished a feed from in the slot. It was his fourth goal in three games.
Anders Lee and Jason Chimera scored to give New York a 3-1 lead before Justin Faulk scored at 4:58.
Lindholm one-timed a shot for a 3-3 tie at 8:57 of the second period. McGinn made a backhand pass across the slot through two Islanders defenders.
"[McGinn] really strong, and he's holding onto the puck and bringing guys to him and making plays," Staal said. "He's doing all those things that we know he can do. He's done all of it since he's been back."
McGinn later scored off a rush to give Carolina a 4-3 lead at 16:57.
Greiss finished with 36 saves and was replaced by J-F Berube after allowing the goal to Staal.

Greiss gloved Victor Rask's high, hard shot with 4:43 left in the second period to keep the game tied 3-3.

Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier did a nice job staying with the play after he missed on the backhand, making a perfect pass to Chimera for the goal.

On Lindholm's goal, Staal made a one-handed pass as he took a hit from Calvin de Haan along the wall.
