Brock Nelson scored 1:11 into the game off a pass from Joshua Ho-Sang. Mathew Barzal scored a highlight-reel goal during a power play at 14:15 of the first, skating from his own blue line before beating Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid on a breakaway to make it 2-0. Johnny Boychuk made it 3-0 with 1:19 remaining in the third period. The Islanders outshot the Devils 17-6 in the first period. Greiss made 15 saves in the second. Kinkaid made 42 saves.
