Lights, Kase, Flames' rally lead the way on Wednesday

The Calgary Flames became the 28th team in NHL history to win a game when trailing by multiple goals in the final two minutes of the third period when they rallied to
defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-5
at Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday.

The Flyers led 5-3 before defenseman Rasmus Andersson scored his first NHL goal with 1:08 remaining in the third period. Center Sean Monahan tied the game 5-5 with seven seconds left in regulation, and forward Johnny Gaudreau won it by scoring 35 seconds into overtime.
Monahan became the third player in the NHL this season to score a game-tying goal in the final 10 seconds of the third period; the first two were San Jose Sharks center Tomas Hertl (two seconds left) in a 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Rangers on on Oct. 30 and Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat (two seconds left) in a 5-4 overtime win against the Florida Panthers on Nov. 24.
The goal was Monahan's 20th of the season; he is the first player in Atlanta/Calgary Flames history to score at least 20 goals in each of the first six seasons immediately following his draft year.
The Flames joined the Pittsburgh Penguins as the only team in the NHL's modern era (since 1943-44) to have three comeback wins after trailing by multiple goals in the final two minutes of the third period. The Flames also did it at the Washington Capitals on March 13, 1999, and at home against the Nashville Predators on Nov. 3, 1999. The only team to trail by two goals in the final two minutes and win in regulation was the Dallas Stars, who trailed the Boston Bruins 5-3 with 50 seconds remaining on Oct. 14, 1995, and scored three goals in a span of 44 seconds for a 6-5 win.

Comebacks continue

The Flames and Anaheim Ducks, who scored five consecutive goals to rally for
a 6-3 win
against the Stars at Honda Center, posted the 66th and 67th multigoal comeback wins in the NHL this season. Calgary's multigoal comeback in the third period was the 21st in 2018-19.
Calgary leads the NHL with seven wins in games when trailing after two periods, one more than the Ducks and Buffalo Sabres.

Hats off

Pittsburgh forward Bryan Rust had the second three-goal performance of his NHL career in
a 6-3 loss
at the Chicago Blackhawks, and Ducks forward Ondrej Kase had his first in the win against Dallas. They were the 39th and 40th hat tricks in 478 games this season; nearly half as many as were scored through all of last season (81 in 1,271 games played).
At least one player had had a hat trick in each of the past four days.
Rust is the fifth Pittsburgh player to have a hat trick in 2018-19, the most by any team. It's the sixth time the Penguins have had at least five hat tricks in their first 30 games of a season and the first since 2008-09. That also marked the last season any team had at least five hat tricks in its first 30 games.

PIT@CHI: Rust picks up second career hatty

Kase scored one goal in each period for the second hat trick by an Anaheim player this season; Defenseman Cam Fowler scored three times against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Nov. 4. The Ducks had two hat tricks last season and haven't had more than two since 2014-15, when Corey Perry had all three to match the team record for hat tricks in a season set by Teemu Selanne in 1997-98 and matched by Perry in 2010-11.

Getzlaf, Toews reach milestones

Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf and Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews each attained a career milestones.
Getzlaf had two assists to become the 112th player in NHL history (and eighth active player) to have 900 career points; he has 901 (255 goals, 646 assists) in 944 games. Getzlaf is the second player to have 900 points playing for Anaheim; Selanne reached the 900-point mark with the Ducks on Dec. 10, 2011, against the Predators.
Toews had a goal and two assists to become the seventh player to have at least 700 points with the Blackhawks and the 16th active player to have 700 points with the same franchise. Toews (306 goals, 394 assists) and longtime teammate Patrick Kane (865 points; 327 goals, 538 assists) make the Blackhawks one of five teams with two active players who have at least 700 points with their team.

Golden Knights stay hot

The Vegas Golden Knights improved to 11-4-0 in their past 15 games since Nov. 12 by
defeating the New York Islanders 3-2
at Barclays Center. The Golden Knights (18-14-1) have the most wins of any Western Conference team in that span and are second in the NHL to the Tampa Bay Lightning (12-3-0).
The victory gave Vegas at least one win against every other NHL team; the Islanders (2-0-0) were the only team that did not lose to the Golden Knights during their inaugural NHL season.
