GAMEDAY: Jets at Canucks

VANCOUVER -The Winnipeg Jets look to continue their success in Vancouver as they close out a two-game mini-series with the Canucks tonight.
Following Monday's 4-0 victory, the Jets have won seven straight games inside Rogers Arena. A win tonight would push that to eight while also giving Winnipeg a sweep of this week's short series with the Canucks.
One of the keys to doing that is continuing the strong defensive work the Jets put in on Monday.
They allowed 22 shots on goal, the sixth time this season they've allowed that many or less in a game.

"I think it was in all three zones," said Jets forward Nate Thompson. "They have D that like to jump up in the play and we kind of disrupted them in the neutral zone. And I even think in the D zone we were keeping them to outside and not giving them second and third chances. Whenever you can do that, they're not going to get a lot of shots and you're going to limit some pretty good scoring chances."

Of course, a team's game can't be all about defence. The trio of Andrew Copp, Adam Lowry, and Mason Appleton might be the best example of that.
They scored twice on Monday and, on top of that, didn't give up a high-danger chance against (according to Natural Stat Trick).
"I don't really consider us a checking line anymore," said Copp, who picked up an assist in Monday's win.
"Especially on the road, teams are trying to avoid putting certain guys against us. If we're getting third line match-ups, we're not going out there to shut down their third line, we're going out there to score."

Every member of that line found the score sheet on Monday. Lowry scored twice and now has seven goals on the season, three more than he did in 2019-20.
Appleton has already hit career highs for goals (eight), assists (eight), and points (16) this season.
Copp's 21 points are just seven short of his career best of 28 set in 2017-18.
"Those guys can be very responsible defensively. They've got three penalty killers on the line, so they understand the defensive part of the game. That's part of their skillset," said head coach Paul Maurice. "But to be able then to generate offence not in the way that you see the Scheifele or the Dubois line generate offence -- theirs is different because of that skillset -- and I thought they were true to their game prior to them scoring goals, and they looked very strong."

Still, there was some offence left on the table for that group. Copp certainly heard about it from his former University of Michigan teammate, Tyler Motte, who plays for the Canucks.
"I think I put one in the stands early in the game and he's like 'you should've left the wedge in the bag,' or something like that," Copp said with a grin. "There is a little bit of talk going on the ice.
"That's another part you miss. Going on the road and seeing some of your buddies and going out for dinner the night before maybe, just catch up and talk with some of those guys. We have to manage how much we talk on the ice, obviously - we have to worry about the game. There will be a little talk after the game tonight if we touch base a little bit."
The Jets (19-11-2) will go with the same line-up tonight as they did on Monday night, including putting Connor Hellebuyck back between the pipes after he earned his first shutout of the season earlier this week:

This will be the second straight game that Maurice will keep the defensive pairings the way they are.

Prior to Monday's match-up, he flipped Tucker Poolman and Dylan DeMelo.
"I thought Tucker looked real good there. Dylan and Logan have a good mix, there's lots of talk," said Maurice. "Dylan's a talker on the bench and I think that's really good for Logan to have somebody that is constantly talking about the shift and the game to kind of engage him in his learning process of the NHL. So we're happy with the way they played."

The Jets continue a seven-game road trip Monday with the second of two games against the Vancouver Canucks.
The Jets are in a stretch of playing 12 of 14 games on the road.
The Jets have points in 11 of their past 16 games (10-5-1).
Winnipeg is 9-6-1 on the road this season.
Adam Lowry collected his first two-goal game of the season on Monday.
