Jimmy Vesey

Forward Jimmy Vesey had no points and three shots on goal in 16:33 of ice time in his first NHL game when the New York Rangers defeated the New Jersey Devils 3-1 at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.

Forward Brandon Pirri scored two goals and had an assist for the Rangers, and defenseman John Gilmour had a goal and an assist. Antti Ranta made 15 saves in two periods before being replaced by Mackenzie Skapski (12 saves) in the second period.
Miles Wood scored in the second period for the Devils. Scott Wedgewood made 28 saves.
Vesey, who skated on a line with Kevin Hayes and Rick Nash, agreed to terms with the Rangers on Aug. 19, after he did not sign with the Buffalo Sabres, who acquired him in a trade with the Nashville Predators, who selected him in the third round (No. 66) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
Vesey, 23, led the Traverse City Prospects Tournament, held this month, with five goals and seven points. He also won the Hobey Baker Award as the top collegiate player in 2014-15 (32 goals, 26 assists in 37 games).
