LOS ANGELES -- Dustin Brown scored a hat trick, and Anze Kopitar had a goal and two assists to help the Los Angeles Kings to a 5-2 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Staples Center on Sunday.

Calvin Petersen made 32 saves for the Kings (8-14-1), who had lost five straight home games in regulation.
"Sometimes it just comes down to players feeling good on certain nights, and I think me and Kopitar] and [Alex Iafallo] all felt really well going into the game," said Brown, who had gone eight games without a goal.

Alex Chiasson scored twice and Connor McDavid extended his point streak to six games for the Oilers (10-11-2), who are 1-1-1 after three games for coach Ken Hitchcock. Cam Talbot made 27 saves.
Brown completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal at 19:06 of the third period for a 4-2 Kings lead. It was his fifth career hat trick.

Enterprise Hat Trick: Brown nets fifth career hatty

Kopitar gave the Kings a 3-2 lead at 4:27 of the third period when Derek Forbort made a long pass into the neutral zone for a breakaway. Kopitar beat Talbot between the legs with a wrist shot for his seventh point (three goals, four assists) in his past five games.
"Our passing was a lot cleaner as a line and as a team, so when you can pass the puck and move the puck up the ice it opens up a lot more ice," Brown said. "I think a lot of the goals we scored tonight were the result of good passing, really."
Chiasson put the Oilers ahead 2-1 at 2:16 of the second period, but Brown responded with a power-play goal at 4:13 to tie the game at 2-2.
Chiasson tied it 1-1 at 13:19 of the first period. With Kopitar in the penalty box for holding, McDavid was able to skate along the right circle before finding Chiasson at the edge of the crease.
"He's a really, really smart offensive player," Hitchcock said of Chiasson, who has four goals in his past five games. "He doesn't have great foot speed, but he's got great offensive instincts and where he's really good is down low. He gets himself into great spots. I think we've got to consider bouncing him up one notch."
Brown gave the Kings a 1-0 lead 7:56 into the game, his first goal since Nov. 3 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Matt Luff extended his goal streak to four games with an empty-net goal at 19:33 for the 5-2 final score. He is the fifth Kings rookie to have a goal streak of at least four games.

They said it

"I'm really excited by the potential. I know we can get better and I know that it's there, but I also know we came in three tough buildings. All their best players, they all got rings and they were the best players tonight. And we still went at those guys pretty hard, so that's a good sign." -- Oilers coach Ken Hitchcock
"That line's been frustrated a little bit; they haven't been getting as many [opportunities]. They have worked hard and it's nice to kind of get the monkey off your back where you're finally scoring a little bit, so it was good to see them get [four goals]." -- Kings coach Willie Desjardins
