Getzlaf helps Ducks cool off Flames

ANAHEIM -- Ryan Getzlaf broke a tie early in the third period to help the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Honda Center on Wednesday.

Jakob Silfverberg and Adam Henrique also scored and Ryan Miller made 37 saves for the Ducks (7-7-3), who won for the second time in their past 10 games (2-6-2).
Matthew Tkachuk had a power-play goal and Mark Jankowski scored shorthanded for the Flames (9-6-1), who had their four-game winning streak end. Mike Smith made 21 saves.

Getzlaf gave Anaheim a 3-2 lead at 6:33 of the third period, 27 seconds after Jankowski tied the game. Ducks forward Rickard Rakell drove to the net with three defenders around the crease. The puck came off his blade to a wide-open Getzlaf, who took his time before backhanding the puck high in the net.
"[Rakell] went back and made a nice play taking it to the net," Getzlaf said.

Miller made his final two saves during a 6-on-4 situation after Rakell went to the penalty box for slashing Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau with 1:14 left.
"We've got to get more looks than that," Flames captain Mark Giordano said.
Miller prevented the Flames from scoring first when he stopped forward Elias Lindholm on a shorthanded breakaway at 4:03 of the first period. He denied another quality scoring chance from center Sean Monahan at 6:20.
Silfverberg then gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 8:37 of the first period. He spun around Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin at Calgary's blue line and then took a shot from the top of the right face-off circle. The puck slipped between Smith's glove and left hip and slid slowly across the goal line for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.

"I didn't like the play by Hanifin in the neutral zone," Flames coach Bill Peters said. "He stepped up and kind of got rolled and ended up getting him easier access to our zone than I'd like."
Henrique made it 2-0 at 11:53 of the first. Miller made a save on Ducks defenseman Josh Manson's slap shot from the right point, but the rebound came out diagonally to Henrique, who shot it high in the net for his fourth goal of the season.
"You don't want to spot a team two [goals], especially in this building," Flames defenseman Travis Hamonic said.

Calgary went on its first power play after Ducks forward Ben Street was penalized for tripping defenseman T.J. Brodie at 17:05. Monahan won the ensuing face-off in the Ducks zone and the puck went to Tkachuk, who took a wrist shot from just above the right circle and scored into the top right corner to cut the lead to 2-1 at 17:10 of the first.
Flames forward Mikael Backlund was in the penalty box for tripping Getzlaf when Jankowski dug the puck off the wall in his own zone, then got around Ducks defenseman Brandon Montour at the blue line to spring a 2-on-1. Jankowksi elected to shoot and hit the top right corner for his first goal of the season at 6:06 of the third to make it 2-2.
