ANA@VAN: Terry puts home Getzlaf's feed for OT winner

Troy Terry scored with 1:08 left in overtime after extending his point streak to 12 games with an assist, and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 at Rogers Arena on Tuesday.

Terry finished off a 3-on-1 rush on a backdoor pass from Ryan Getzlaf to help Anaheim win its fifth straight game for the first time since Nov. 27-Dec. 5, 2018. But all Terry wanted to talk about was John Gibson, who made 41 saves, including stopping two overtime breakaways for the Ducks (7-4-3), who have points in seven straight games (5-0-2) and eight of the past nine (5-1-3).
"I can't even talk about the goal before talking about our goalie," Terry told Bally Sports West. "He was our rock from the first period all the way to when that puck went in the net. He stood on his head for us tonight. He made three unreal saves in overtime. He is our backbone and he's incredible."
Elias Pettersson scored shorthanded with goalie Jaroslav Halak pulled for an extra attacker to tie it 2-2 with 55 seconds left in the third period for the Canucks.

J.T. Miller scored, and Halak made 27 saves for the Canucks (5-6-2), who ended a seven-game homestand 2-4-1.
"We've been playing well," Miller said. "We have to keep evaluating ourselves honestly, and honestly we played another good hockey game. We still have things to take care of on the special teams, we could always grow there, but I think those will come. We have to stay on the same page five-on-five and trust that more nights than not we're going to get four, five, maybe six goals."
They may have if not for Gibson, who made breakaway saves off Miller and Bo Horvat in overtime, and on Horvat on a power-play one-timer in the slot 6:44 into the first period, and another breakaway in tight at 10:30 of the second.
"It felt like he was going to stop anything he saw," Canucks coach Travis Green said.
Terry assisted on Cam Fowler's power-play goal to put the Ducks ahead 1-0 at 11:18 of the first period. He has 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) during his streak, the longest in the NHL this season and the Ducks' longest since Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya each had a 12-game point streak in 1996-97.
"Everyone says they don't like to think about it, and I'm no different. I'm just enjoying the way this team is playing," Terry told Bally Sports West. "When you get away from the game maybe later on and you see that list that I'm on, it's just an incredibly prestigious list and I'm honored to be on it."

It was 11th time in 13 games this season the Canucks have given up the first goal, and the fifth straight game it was on a power play.
Anaheim finished 1-for-4 on the power play against a Vancouver penalty kill that came into the game last in the NHL at 63.9 percent.
"If our special teams were better we'd no doubt have another two or three wins," Green said.
Isac Lundestrom was credited with making it 2-0 at 9:15 of the third period after being stopped by Halak in tight and having the rebound bounce off the leg of Miller towards the net. Miller appeared to swipe the puck off the goal line and play continued for another 1:41 but replays showed the puck had completely crossed the goal line.
"It hit both of my legs. I think if the puck was flat it would have been fine, but I think it rolled up," Miller said. "Unfortunate."
Miller scored through a screen at 13:29 to cut it to 2-1, and Pettersson's shot deflected off Ducks defenseman Josh Manson and through Gibson's left to tie it 2-2 at 19:05.
"You got to win some of the ugly ones too," Getzlaf said. "We didn't play very well tonight and we know that in our locker room, but sometimes you need your goaltender to save you games, and tonight he did. Our guys did a good job of rebounding after giving up a couple late goals like that, and our goaltender made two big saves in overtime to keep us in that thing."
