NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers stayed hot on their home ice in a 4-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.
Henrik Lundqvist made 39 saves, and Paul Carey had the first two-goal game of his NHL career to help the Rangers (19-12-3) improve to 12-1-1 at the Garden since Oct. 26.

"We have been so good at home] that teams know it's going to be hard," Rangers defenseman Marc Staal said. "When you go into a building as a visiting team you know the team's home record. We've just been finding ways to win here. We have to keep that going."

Carey, the fourth-line left wing who had two goals in his previous 21 games, scored at 19:14 of the first period and 13:00 of the second. David Desharnais, who was moved to the fourth line to make room for the return of center Mika Zibanejad, assisted on each goal.
Kevin Hayes' goal at 38 seconds of the second period was the game-winner, and Michael Grabner scored his team-leading 17th for the Rangers, who have won three in a row and 10 of 14 (10-3-1). Eleven players have scored at least two goals in the past 14 games, led by Grabner's nine. Lundqvist's save percentage has improved to .920, up from .908 a month ago.

"When we win, it's team-oriented," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. "It's because contributions are from throughout the lineup, whether it be a blocked shot, whether it be making an offensive play, whether it be a big save from [Lundqvist]. It's a team thing and that's how we're going to continue to roll."
The Ducks (14-13-8) lost their second straight game in regulation and third in a row (0-2-1). Ondrej Kase scored, and John Gibson made 28 saves.
Anaheim has scored six goals in its past three games. It hasn't scored more than three goals since a 4-2 win against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 15, a span of 17 consecutive games. It is 6-6-5 in those games.
"I think we are finding ways to lose hockey games," Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf said. "You have to find ways to win. We have to dig in, buckle down defensively and win one of these games 1-0, something like that. We have to give our goaltenders more help."
Carey scored his first goal after skating past Getzlaf at the Ducks blue line. He went alone into the slot and tipped in Desharnais' pass out of the right corner to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.
"It was my fault, 100 percent," Getzlaf said. "I have to move my feet. I yelled at [Ducks defenseman Francois] Beauchemin at the last minute out of desperation for help. That's not on him, that's on me."
Hayes made it 2-0 early in the second with a high, blocker-side snap shot from the left circle off a cross-ice pass from Mats Zuccarello seconds after he came on the ice in place of J.T. Miller.
Carey's second goal came after the Rangers caught the Ducks in a line change on a play that started with a long pass by Lundqvist to forward Jimmy Vesey. Nobody picked up Carey as he followed Staal down the middle, got the pass from Desharnais and scored for a 3-0 lead.

"It's hard to find that much time and space at this level, so when you do get that it's an opportunity to take advantage of it," Carey said.
Kase scored at 14:43 of the third to cut the lead to 3-1, but Grabner scored at 16:37 to restore New York's three-goal advantage.
Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle said all the goals against were defendable. He also said the Ducks didn't go hard enough at the net to create second-chance opportunities.
"Either we were too tight to the net or they did a good job of blocking us out," Carlyle said. "We have to be harder to get into those areas as far as saying, 'Hey, we're going to go score,' because that's where the puck goes and where the goals are scored in the NHL now."

They said it

"We definitely had our chances and you've got to give their goalie credit. He's been a goaltender in this league for a long time, doing what he does, but if he gets to see everything and gets his positioning then his life is much easier." -- Ducks coach Randy Carlyle
"It's a big night. It was a lot of fun. Certainly, I was trying to get that third one. I've never been able to do that at this level, so it was a good time. It's nice to be rewarded." -- Rangers forward Paul Carey
