Jonathan Bernier gets first shutout with Ducks

GLENDALE, Ariz.-- Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves for his first shutout with the Anaheim Ducks, a 3-0 win against the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena on Saturday.
With his mother watching from the stands with a group of Ducks relatives, Bernier earned his 13th NHL shutout.
"It was a great win for us on the road, and having my mom here makes it even more special. She'll be pretty happy," said Bernier, who had played 3:48 in relief since Dec. 20. "After the first 10 minutes I really felt good, and I have to give credit to the guys, they were there for rebounds and let me see a lot of pucks."

Hampus Lindholm scored 5:49 into the first period, Nick Ritchie scored 35 seconds into the third, and Ryan Kesler scored an empty-net goal for Anaheim (24-13-8), which has won six of its past seven games and is 7-1-3 in its past 11.
"We were staunch enough on the defensive side of it that our goalie [wasn't] called upon to make a bunch of 10-bell saves," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "But he pitched us a shutout and it was great to see Bernier coming back after not playing for a while and it strengthens our belief the 1-A (starter John Gibson) and 1-B tandem that we have."
The Ducks are 11-2-4 against the Pacific Division, earning 26 of their 56 points. They are 13-2-3 in their past 18 games against the Coyotes.

Louie Domingue made 20 saves for the Coyotes (13-23-6), who failed in their fourth attempt to win three games in a row this season. Arizona has been shut out four times in the past 18 games.
"We had some opportunities to score but we're missing too many nets," said Arizona defenseman Michael Stone, who hit the post in the second period. "There's no magic solution. You just have to bear down on what you are doing and execute."
Anaheim's top line set up the first goal. Passes by Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf found Lindholm alone in the right circle. His shot deflected of the stick of Domingue and under the crossbar for his second goal of the season, first in 17 games.
Ritchie made it 2-0 when Kase's dump in off the end boards took a wild bounce to him in the slot. He beat Domingue between the pads for his 10th goal.

"It was a lucky break and it got us a two-goal lead," Ritchie said. "That kind of a goal, when it happens, it's deflating for Arizona. It's happened to teams I've played on and you know how it feels."

With Perry screening Domingue, Lindholm's shot bounced in and out of the net so fast it had to be reviewed.

Bernier made several good saves on Brendan Perlini, but the best came with four minutes left when he kicked out the pad to keep Anaheim up 1-0.

Unsung performance of the game

Defenseman Luke Schenn had six of Arizona's 18 hits. Playing on the top pair with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Schenn played 17:25.

Domingue made a glove save on Jakob Silfverberg's whirling, low shot in the first period.
