211203 - FIVE STORY

DIFFERENT LOOKING POWER PLAY
With the Jets searching for offence right now, Paul Maurice has decided to move some players around on the power play. The man advantage has been anything but that for Winnipeg since early November as it's gone 2-for-34 including 0-for-6 on Monday when pushing for the tying goal in the 1-0 loss to Arizona. Kyle Connor will move to the left side when Nikolaj Ehlers was for a few games. Connor joins Mark Scheifele, Blake Wheeler, Neal Pionk and Pierre-Luc Dubois will hang out around the goal line. Ehlers rejoins Josh Morrissey, Nate Schmidt, Paul Stastny and Andrew Copp.

MUCH NEEDED REST
The Jets took a couple days off the ice following their loss on Monday and they needed it. Winnipeg had played eight games in eight different time zones and had played five games in eight days. They may have needed the mental break on top of the physical one considering the way they are struggling to score goals right now. This past week was the first time the Jets have had three days between games.

HELLEBUYCK SHINES
After being pulled last Friday in a 7-1 loss to Minnesota, Connor Hellebuyck has responded with some excellent goaltending over his last two starts. Hellebuyck has stopped 48 of the last 51 shots he has faced and allowed just three goals. He has allowed two goals or less in 11 of his last 12 starts and has a .933 save percentage. His 11 starts of allowing two goals or less has him tied for fourth in the NHL.
STRUGGLING VS. THE EAST
New Jersey will be the fourth Eastern opponent the Jets will face in 2021-22. For whatever reason, Winnipeg hasn't been able to find a way to beat opponents from the other conference. The Jets are 0-3 following losses to the Islanders, Penguins and Blue Jackets and have scored just once in those three setbacks. The Jets were 13-16-2 against the East back in 2019-20.
DEVILS LIMP INTO TOWN
The Devils played last night in St. Paul against the Minnesota Wild. After falling behind 3-0, they pulled within a goal before giving up two more in a 5-2 loss to the Western Conference leading Wild. New Jersey has now dropped two straight and seven of their past nine games (2-5-2). They feature the first overall pick of the 2019 NHL Draft in Jack Hughes who just signed an eight year, 64-million-dollar extension with the club. Hughes is joined by another young star in Nico Hischier and Dougie Hamilton who signed a seven year, 63-million-dollar deal to join the Devils as a free agent in the off-season.
