The New York Islanders earned a point for the second-straight game, but their winless streak was extended to three games following a 3-2 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night at UBS Arena.
Brock Nelson's power-play goal in the third period sent the game to an extra frame, but only Ottawa's Tim Stutzle (game-deciding goal) and Drake Batherson scored in the shootout. Stutzle (1G, 1A) and Brady Tkachuk (1G, 1A) scored for the Senators in regulation, while Ryan Pulock rounded out the scoring for the Islanders.
With the shootout loss, the Islanders (61 points) moved into a tie with the Pittsburgh Penguins (61 points) for the second wild card, but the Penguins hold five games in hand and play the San Jose Sharks late on Tuesday.
