Rapid Recap: Islanders 5, Penguins 1

The New York Islanders beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 in their first meeting of the season at UBS Arena on Tuesday night.
Mat Barzal and Anders Lee each had a two-goal night, while Josh Bailey (1G, 1A) contributed with a goal in the win. Brock Nelson had a pair of assists in the victory. Pierre-Oliver Joseph scored the lone goal for the Penguins.

THE SCORING

First Period
1:03 - NYI 1, PIT 0 - Anders Lee finds open ice to receive a pass from Brock Nelson, rifling a wrister that beats Jarry stick-side.

15:13 - NYI 1, PIT 1 - The Penguins even the score with a long shot blast from Pierre-Oliver Joseph, which deflects off Brock Nelson's stick and finds the back of the net. Kasperi Kapanen picks up the primary assist.
Second Period
17:01 - NYI 2, PIT 1 - Hudson Fasching takes a slapshot from the dot which deflects off the stick of Mat Barzal. Josh Bailey tallies the secondary assist.

11:32 - NYI 3, PIT 1 - Noah Dobson fakes a slap shot at the point and freezes the Penguins, before sending a cross-ice pass down to Josh Bailey, who fires it past Jarry to extend the Islanders lead.

NYI 4, PIT 1 - Barzal buries his second of the night on a tough angle late in the second period. The puck winds up on Barzal's stick after a pair of Penguins attempt to clear the puck from the front of the net.

Third Period
3:33 - NYI 5, PIT 1 - Anders Lee nets his second goal of the night to extend the Islanders lead to 5-1. Brock Nelson and Ryan Pulock tally the assists.

NOTEBOOK

The Islanders outshot the Penguins 43-21, recording over 40 shots on goal for the eighth time this season.... Casey Cizikas rejoined the lineup after missing Friday's game... Noah Dobson extended his point streak to three games with three assists over that span... Ilya Sorokin made his 100th NHL appearance... GOALTENDING BATTLE

Ilya Sorokin stopped 20-of-21 shots in the win.
Tristian Jarry stopped 38-of-43 in the loss.

The Islanders went 0-for-3 and their penalty kill went 1-for-1.
