Final

The New York Islanders extended their point streak to five games (4-0-1) with a dramatic 2-1 win over the New York Rangers on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.
Kyle Palmieri broke a 1-1 deadlock with 2:44 to play in the third period, while Anders Lee opened the scoring with a power-play goal. Ilya Sorokin backstopped the win with 29 saves.
Chris Krieder's 40th goal of the season was the lone Rangers tally, while Igor Shesterkin stopped 26 of 28.

THE SCORING:

1st Period:

2nd Period:
0:49 - NYI 1, NYR 0 PPG - Anders Lee posts up in the slot and buries a feed from Mathew Barzal for his 23rd goal of the season. The goal extends Lee's goal streak to a career-long six games. Noah Dobson picks up the secondary assist.
13:38 - NYI 1, NYR 1 PPG - Chris Kreider scores his 40th goal of the season, beating Ilya Sorokin blocker side off the rush. Alexis Lafrenière and Jacob Trouba with the assists.
3rd Period:
17:16 - NYI 2, NYR 1 - Kyle Palmieri knocks a Ryan Pulock shot out of the air and past Shesterkin. The goal extends Palmieri's point streak to six games and is Palmieri's 10th goal in the past 15 games.

Lee's goal was his 207th as an Islander, breaking a tie with John Tonelli for sole possession of 11th on the franchise's all-time list. Lee's point was also the 350th of his career, breaking a tie with Frans Nielsen for sole possession of 18th on the franchise's all-time list... Barzal's assist marked his 26th point (7G, 19A) in 22 games against the Rangers, the most he's recorded against any opponent. The point was also Barzal's 15th in 11 games at MSG... Scott Mayfield blocked a game-high six shots on goal... Palmieri and Brock Nelson co-led the Islanders with four SOG each... Pulock led the Islanders with 20:47 TOI... Only Pulock and Adam Pelech (20:28) played over 20 minutes.

GOALTENDING BATTLE:

The Sorokin-Shesterkin matchup lived up to the hype on Thursday. Sorokin is now 2-0 vs Shesterkin.
Sorokin stopped 29 of 30 in the win, including save-of-the-year candidate in the first period (see below).
Shesterkin stopped 26 of 28 in the loss, falling to 1-5-1 in seven games vs the Islanders.

SPECIAL TEAMS BATTLE:

The Islanders went 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
