The New York Islanders fell 5-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon at UBS Arena and as a result trail their best-of-seven series 3-1.
Sebastian Aho (1G, 2A) led the way with three points, while Seth Jarvis netted a pair of goals. Mackenzie MacEachern had two points (1G, 1A) in his Hurricanes debut, while Martin Necas netted a power-play goal.

Adam Pelech and Bo Horvat (SHG) scored for the Islanders in the third period, but only after the Islanders were in a 4-0 hole.
The loss means the Islanders season will be on the line on Tuesday night in Raleigh. The Islanders are 2-13 overall in series when they trail 3-1. The Hurricanes are 4-0 when they lead 3-1 in a series.

THE SCORING

1st Period:
4:05 - CAR 1, NYI 0 PPG - Carolina opens the scoring on a five-on-three power play. Brent Burns fans on a shot and while Ilya Sorokin stops the initial shot, Stefan Noesen kicks the rebound over the Seth Jarvis, who deposits it at the side of the net.
2nd Period:
1:15 - CAR 2, NYI 0 PPG - Martin Necas finishes off some tic-tac-toe passing on a Hurricanes power play, converting a cross-crease feed from Stefan Noesen. Sebastian Aho picks up the secondary assist on the play.
13:30 - CAR 3, NYI 0 - Alexander Romanov turns the puck over at the Hurricanes blue line, sending Sebastian Aho and Mackenzie MacEachern on a two-on-one the other way. MacEachern feeds Aho, who beats Sorokin high.
3rd Period:
1:20 - CAR 4, NYI 0 - Jarvis nets his second of the game, beating Sorokin on a breakaway. Aho picks up the only assist for his third point of the game.
3:14 - CAR 4, NYI 1-Brock Nelson fishes the puck out from the crease before Antti Raanta is able to cover up and Adam Pelech pinches in off the blue line to put it home.

14:01 - CAR 5, NYI 1 - Mackenzie MacEachern scores his first goal as a Hurricane, firing a shot past Sorokin from the slot. Brady Skjei gets the only assist, feeding MacEachern after intercepting an Islanders clearing attempt.
17:57 - CAR 5, NYI 2 SHG - Bo Horvat records his first point of the series, snapping a shot past Raanta on a shorthanded breakaway. Scott Mayfield picks up the only assist.

NOTEBOOK:

Jack Drury left the game after taking a big hit from Ryan Pulock in the opening minutes of Sunday's game and did not return… Mackenzie MacEachern drew into the lineup, making his Carolina Hurricanes debut, replacing Derek Stepan… MacEachern recorded his first point as a Hurricane by assisting on Sebastian Aho's second period goal and scored his first goal as a Cane in the third… The Hurricanes outhit the Islanders 39-31… Ryan Pulock played a game-high 24:44 and had a game-high six shots… The Islanders won 32-of-60 faceoffs (53%)… The team that has scored first has won all four games of the series.

GOALTENDING MATCHUP:

Ilya Sorokin stopped 24 of 29 in the loss.
Antti Raanta stopped 27 of 29 in the win.

SPECIAL TEAMS MATCHUP:

The Islanders power play went 0-for-3, while the penalty kill went 2-for-5 and scored a shorthanded goal.
