What a year!
The Calgary Wranglers ended the 2022-23 regular season campaign with a 3-2 win over Abbotsford on Saturday, claiming the Pacific Division title and the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy, which is awarded to the AHL's best regular-season team, and earning them a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
It is the first time a Flames AHL affiliate has won the Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy.
The Wranglers went 51-17-4, recorded 106 points, and posted a .736 points percentage in the 2022-23 season. Although Calgary started the season on a rocky note, dropping five of their first seven games, they played at a .785 clip (49-12-4) after that stretch.
Flames prospect Matthew Phillips led the Wranglers in scoring with 36 goals and 76 points through 66 games. Defenceman Jeremie Poirier, the Flames' third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, led all Wranglers rookies with 41 points through 69 games. Dustin Wolf went 42-10-2 with a 2.09 GAA, .932 save percentage, and seven shutouts, leading all AHL goaltenders.
Earlier this week, Phillips and Wolf were named to the AHL First All-Star Team, Wolf captured the Hap Holmes Memorial Award as the league's best goaltender, and Poirier was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team.
