FLAMES FOUNDATION ADDS $1 MILLION TO COVID-19 SUPPORT PROGRAM

The Calgary Flames Foundation is proud to announce a $1 million donation in support of various southern Alberta communities facing hardships and significant challenges due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 2020 the Calgary Flames Foundation COVID-19 Support Program has now distributed over $3.5 million to southern Alberta charities. The most recent $1 million in donations will support charities continuing to address urgent needs of Albertans focused on the mobilization of food and relief for vulnerable population.
"The extension of this program is intended to address urgent needs in our community, immediately. We know people and families are, and have been, struggling and we want to ensure continued support for charities delivering critical services at this time," said Calgary Flames Foundation Executive Director, Candice Goudie. "The distribution of these funds would not be possible without the success of the online 50/50 program presented by RE/MAX and every person who participated this season."

This additional $1 million in donations will support organizations continuing to address urgent needs of Albertans distributed to the following charities:

Mobilization of Food and Food Security

This includes southern Alberta food banks, grocery gift cards for low income Calgarians, community kitchens and food delivery services.

Relief for Vulnerable Populations

Centre for Newcomers
This is financial assistance for income support through the Newcomer Emergency Income Gap Project - a service that gives micro-loans or grants to clients without income.
Immigrant Services Calgary
Support of a rapid response program created to help newcomers and ethnocultural communities with ongoing needs due to the pandemic. This is a partnership between Immigrant Services Calgary and the new Calgary East Zone Newcomers Collaborative (CENC).
United Way of Calgary and Area
Gift of Chromebooks/computers distributed to families in need of technology support to continue learning.
Women in Need Society (WINS)
Financial assistance and resource support for recently unemployed and low income women and mothers.
Good Samaritan Society
Fitness equipment and outdoor activity supplies for nine seniors centres in southern Alberta.
Inn from the Cold
Provides support for shelter, sanctuary and healing to assist children and families that may become or are homeless.

Charitable Support

Donations made to various charities through an application process that have been impacted by the pandemic. These charitable recipients receive varying amounts based on need.
Calgary Flames Foundation COVID-19 Community Support Program was created on March 21, 2020 with an initial donation of $1.15 million to various charities in southern Alberta. The Calgary Flames Foundation has continued to work with charities since then on providing support where needed most. More than 50 charities have received support through the COVID-19 Calgary Flames Foundation Community Support Program.
The Calgary Flames Foundation strives to improve the lives of southern Albertans through support of health and wellness, education and grassroots sports. Since the ownership group brought the team to Calgary in 1980 the Calgary Flames Foundation has injected over $50 million into southern Alberta communities.
