CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames and Brian "Moose" Elliott are proud to announce details on a new community program, Moose's Troops in partnership with the Canadian Legacy Project.
Flames goaltender Brian Elliott and his wife Amanda, a veteran of the U.S. Military, have teamed up with the Canadian Legacy Project to host two Canadian Armed Forces Veterans at 15 Flames home games this season, beginning tomorrow night when the Flames play host to the Winnipeg Jets. The guests will also be featured on the Flames Energy Board with an in-game tribute and they will have the opportunity to meet Elliott following the game.
"The Canadian Armed Forces have been a very important part of our lives for Amanda and I," said Brian Elliott. "We have a great deal of respect for the CAF, their members, and the sacrifices they make for our country. We're very proud that with the support of the Canadian Legacy Project, we can use "Moose's Troops" to recognize these heroes and their sacrifices."
"The Canadian Legacy Project is proud to be partnering with the Calgary Flames and Brian Elliott to recognise those who have stood on guard for Canada." said David Howard, President of the Canadian Legacy Project. "The Calgary community has shown tremendous support for our Canadian Armed Forces and this initiative is an opportunity to further increase this relationship and thank our veterans for their service to this great country."
The Canadian Legacy Project was created because many of our Canadian veterans are living in poverty and do not have the basic necessities in food, clothing and shelter. The Canadian Legacy Project was developed to be an organization that advocates for our veterans and supports them by creating programs and events to help improve their everyday lives.
In addition to "Moose's Troops", Brian Elliott has also helped design a Canadian Armed Forces-themed goalie mask that will be unveiled at Calgary's Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation night and auctioned off in support of charity.
The Flames host the Canadian Forces Appreciation night each year by welcoming hundreds of Canadian Forces members, family members and veterans to the game which honours them for their services. This season, the Canadian Forces Appreciation game will take place on Friday, January 11, 2017.
