FACING THE BLUE JACKETS
The Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets will face off twice this season, with tonight's game being the first of those two meetings. They close out the series on Dec. 16 when the Blue Jackets make a stop in Calgary. The two clubs split the 2015-16 season series, with the road team picking up the victory in each game.
In their last 10 games against the Blue Jackets, the Flames have a 3-4-3 record. In their last time trips to Ohio, the Flames have a 6-4-0 record and have won four of their last six contests at Nationwide Arena. Last year, Johnny Gaudreau scoring the game-winner in a 4-2 Flames win in Columbus.

Dennis Wideman, as a member of the St. Louis Blues, made his NHL debut against Columbus on Nov. 9, 2005. He also scored his first NHL goal against the Blue Jackets, coming on Dec. 1, 2005.
THE ROOKIE CONNECTION
NHL rookies Matthew Tkachuk and Zach Werenski will face off for the first time in their professional careers this evening. The two are off to great starts, with Tkachuk sitting 10th in rookie scoring with five goals and nine points in 17 games and Werenski, a defenceman, third in rookie scoring with five goals and 15 points. Tkachuk was the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and Werenski was the eighth overall selection in the 2015 NHL Draft.
The two have played together in the past, including a stint at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship and time with the U.S. National U-17 team and the U.S. National Team Development Program in 2013-14.
