Mikael Backlund led Sweden to gold at the 2018 IIHF World Championship.
Captaining his country for the first time at the tournament, Backlund logged 25:41 of ice time in Sweden's 3-2 shootout win over Switzerland in the final. The pivot had two goals and nine points in 10 games at this year's World Championship.
Sunday's gold medal win was a tightly contested tilt that saw Switzerland take the lead on two occasions and Sweden respond back with goals of their own in the same period.
Tied at two after 60:00, overtime solved nothing and a shootout was required. Nashville Predators forward Filip Forsberg scored the game-winner in the fourth round:
