Anaheim will look to replicate its season-opening 4-1 win over the Jets on Oct. 13. John Gibson made 33 saves and Mason McTavish became the youngest goal scorer in Ducks history on a thrilling night at Honda Center.
A focal point throughout training camp, the Ducks continue to get scoring throughout the lineup. Veteran defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk leads the club in goals (three), with points in each of his first four appearances while winger Jakob Silfverberg paces the team in scoring (1-5=6). Troy Terry enters play Thursday with back-to-back multi-assist games (0-4=4).
Anaheim sits 2-2-0 on the young season and 1-1-0 halfway through their four-game trip after a 6-5 defeat to the Oilers on Tuesday in Edmonton.
The Ducks made
several roster moves
immediately prior to Tuesday's meeting with the Oilers, recalling forwards Sonny Milano and Sam Carrick while placing McTavish and Max Jones on injured reserve. Sam Steel made his season debut, 20 miles from his hometown of Sherwood Park, making the most of his opportunity with his second career multi-goal performance (2-0=2).
Winnipeg hosts Anaheim in its home opener, still looking for its first win of the season. The Jets are looking to rebound after fumbling a two-goal third period lead against Minnesota on Tuesday, eventually falling 6-5 in overtime. The Jets have won three straight home openers at the newly-renamed Canada Life Centre and have not lost four straight to open a season since the franchise relocated from Atlanta a decade ago.
The Jets have been particularly vulnerable on the penalty-killing, conceding multiple power-play goals in each of their first three games. The Ducks rank tied for second in the NHL with four power-play goals (4-for-12, 25.0%).
Andrew Copp and Kyle Connor co-lead the club in scoring with four points through their first three appearances. Copp posted a career-best three points (1-2=3) in the Jets' loss to the Wild.
The Ducks and Jets will conclude the season series next week, meeting for the third time in 14 days, on Oct. 26 at Honda Center.
