Postgame Quotes
Anaheim Ducks
Sonny Milano
On his overtime goal
We had a set play that didn't work out, but we went with our gut there. [Adam] Henrique told me to switch out and he gave me a good pass. I just tapped it in.
On seamlessly fitting into the lineup
I was playing with two really good, smart players. It definitely made it easy for me.
Adam Henrique
On the new players in the lineup
Strange day with the number of different faces coming in. A lot of times it's one or two guys, but tonight it was a lot of guys. I thought everybody did a good job coming in and just playing hockey.
On defending Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl
I don't know if there's a plan out there for those guys. You can try to do one thing and they're doing another. Their speed and skill, the way they see the ice. We did a good job trying to get in their face as much as possible. Try to take away the time and space that allows them to get their speed.
Ryan Getzlaf
On the new players in the lineup
Sometimes it gives you a little spark. I thought they came in and played a strong, simple game. Our guys responded well to the trade deadline, went out on the attack and got some things done tonight.
On the team's execution level
We simplified the game a little bit, which was good. We played a pretty straight north-south game and, for the most part, took their guys away.
Head Coach Dallas Eakins
On Milano's two-goal debut
For all those guys coming in, it was an exciting day for them, but you're never sure what you're going to get in a game when you plug five guys into the lineup. Sonny coming in and scoring early certainly bodes well for his confidence.
On the performance of the new players
They all played with pace in their own way. Sonny and [Danton] Heinen and [Andrew Agozzino] were really moving their feet. [Matt] Irwin gave us some really good, hard minutes. He's a hard player. I think he had seven hits out there. He was really good in front of our net. [Christian] Djoos was just moving the puck. That's where the speed of his game comes. Quite happy with everyone.
Edmonton Oilers
Tyler Ennis
On his first game with the team
I think it was a slow start, I was a little rusty, but I think as a unit we got better as the game went on. These things take a little time to gel and stuff. For the first game I thought we did some good things.
On the speed of his line
It's a pretty speedy couple wingers and a centerman I got. Connor [McDavid] and Double-A [Andreas Athanasiou] are so fast, I think I'm just trying to get it to those guys and work hard.
Connor McDavid
On his new linemates
I thought they were great, they made plays all night. Big play at the end there by Enzo [Tyler Ennis] and good job by Double-A to hang out there and bang it in. I thought they were good, and I really liked playing with them.
On getting a point after their slow start
I mean obviously not a good enough start. Just weren't ready to go. Couple new faces in the lineup, not sure what it was. I liked our will to battle back. We made it 2-2 then we even gave them one to make it 3-2 and we found another way to battle back. That's a big point for us. We got a big two points tomorrow night that are up for grabs against a good Vegas team.
Head Coach Dave Tippett
On the feeling out process of new players coming in and contributing to get at least one point tonight
Well, we are not in a position where we should be squandering. We should be playing well and getting points, so that's the frustrating part. I understand there's a feeling out process and where everyone is going to fit. With that being said, you still have to control your compete and how hard you work, and in the first period we just got outworked. Those are easy ones to fix. If we are going to be a good playoff team, you have to be able to start on time.
On his assessment of the new players
I thought both of them got better as the game went on. They were like the rest of our team. I thought he [Athanasiou] had real good jump. They are both kind of feeling their way in. Like I said, it's going to take a couple games to get in and get comfortable with things. We'll continue to push them along, but it's good to see. When the new guys coming in, they want to contribute a little bit, so they each get a goal and they each feel like they contribute. Green was solid back there. It's a good start for them.
