At first glance, you wouldn't think the Anaheim Ducks would have much in common with the likes of Kanye West, Victoria Beckham and the Kardashians, but they actually do share a common thread (so to speak) - their own clothing lines.
For the last several years, the Ducks have sold a number of items under a label they have dubbed Top Line Threads, a line of t-shirts created in 2013 that has expanded in selection ever since. The line was created in conjunction with the expansion of the Anaheim Ducks Team Store Powered by Reebok, part of the 15,000-square-foot Grand Terrace (now Shock Top Terrace) construction project at Honda Center.
The motivation behind creating the line was the creation of hockey-themed apparel that would appeal to every level of fan. "We saw a gap in our product line and wanted to offer something to the fans who support the team but don't necessarily wear jerseys," says Ducks Director of Merchandising Jill Bauer, who has been with the organization since its founding in 1993.
"With our Top Line Threads label, we were looking to create an effortless line of apparel with a hockey vibe," Bauer says. "The style is casual enough for fans to wear every day, while still supporting their favorite hockey team."
The designs and styles of the t-shirts reflect the popular graphic t-shirts genre, while still paying tribute to the Ducks and the game of hockey. Those designs come from a dedicated graphic design artist at Melmarc, a full package screen printing company located in nearby Santa Ana.
"The designs are subtle with a definite nod to Southern California beach culture," Bauer says. "We are excited to offer this line of apparel created specifically to sell in the Anaheim Ducks Team Store."
The ever-expanding line is on display at the Anaheim Ducks Team Store at Honda Center, which is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and during every Ducks home game for ticketholders.
