Jack McBain capped a two-goal rally in the third period, but the Arizona Coyotes fell 5-4 to the New Jersey Devils in overtime on Sunday.
Matias Maccelli, Zack Kassian, and Nick Schmaltz also scored for the Coyotes, who showed resilience throughout the game against New Jersey, which has the third-most points in the NHL.
Jesper Boqvist scored twice, while Timo Meier, Damon Severson, and Nico Hischier each added goals, as the Devils won for the fourth time in five games. Vitek Vanecek made 25 saves to earn his 27th win of the season.

Arizona entered the third period down two goals, but Schmaltz cut that lead in half just 1:29 into the frame after he one-timed a cross-ice pass from Clayton Keller past Vanecek. Keller's assist was his 60th point this season -- the second straight season he's accomplished that feat, and third time in his career.
The Coyotes hung with the Devils the rest of the period, culminating in McBain's game-tying goal with just two minutes to play. The 23-year-old McBain has scored twice over his last four games, and finished the night with two points.

"We bounced back well tonight," McBain said. "Unfortunate result, but we showed some resilience."
The Coyotes' blue line rebounded in a big way following the trade deadline, as Juuso Valimaki notched two assists, while Victor Soderstrom and Connor Mackey each added one of their own. It was Mackey's first game with Arizona since being
acquired from the Calgary Flames
last week.
Soderstrom, meanwhile, has now recorded a point in two straight games, and Arizona head coach André Tourigny said the 22-year-old is starting to show what he's capable of.
"He was solid, he was assertive, he was decisive," Tourigny said. "That's how he needs to play every night."
The game was a back-and-forth affair from the very beginning.
Meier opened the scoring at 9:09 of the first period, backhanding a rebound past Ingram in his first game with New Jersey after being acquired from San Jose last week. Maccelli tied it up just over a minute later, though, firing the puck past Vanecek following a nice feed from McBain.
That goal marked his 31st point of the season, which is third among all NHL rookies.
Boqvist reclaimed the lead for New Jersey at 18:18 of the opening frame, taking a pass from Severson and beating Coyotes netminder Connor Ingram glove side. Severson then extended the Devils' lead to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 4:43 of the second period.
Kassian's second goal of the season pulled the Coyotes to within a goal at 16:23, but Boqvist's second of the game restored New Jersey's two-goal cushion with just 43 seconds to play in the frame.

That set up the late-game heroics from McBain.
"We showed a lot of resilience to come back," McBain said. "It was good to get that. Unfortunate result, but it was good to get that for the team."
Tourigny agreed.
"We had fun tonight in the third," he said. "We were really proud of ourselves, and that's a feeling we want to have every night. Unfortunately, we didn't win, and we want to win in front of our fans, but we fought and we take a lot of pride in that."
The Coyotes are back in action on Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues, and the game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Arizona (TV) and Arizona Sports 98.7 FM (Radio). Puck drop is scheduled for 7 pm MST.
