Ashley-Miklas

MONTREAL - Ashley May Miklas was someone very special to Max Domi and his girlfriend, Estelle.

On September 18, Ashley, who was Estelle's best friend, passed away from sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She was just 22 years old.
In her honor, Domi is focusing his Movember efforts this year on raising funds in support of the Ashley Miklas Memorial Fund at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto.
"I understand that Movember is for men's health, in particular, but this year it's a little bit different. Ashley was an amazing person. She was a happy person and someone who was a glow in everyone's life. She lit up every room she walked into and put a smile on everyone's face. She would always put everyone ahead of herself. That's special, and she had a strong value for family and friends, which both meant so much to her. To honor her life, this whole month is going to be driven towards raising funds for her foundation," said Domi, one of 11 players on the Canadiens' roster taking part in Movember this time around. "Her legacy is going to continue on and we're all going to give back to who she was as a person."

While Domi didn't know Ashley growing up, he attended Upper Canada College with her brothers, Adam and Mathew, and eventually befriended her through Estelle.
"I was lucky enough to share some time with Ashley. The brief time I spent with her, she was always so positive and such a thrill to be around. Listening to the stories and all the awesome times people shared with her, everyone had unbelievable things to say," said Domi. "Her parents, Holly and Paul, are great people, and they did a heck of a job raising those three kids. It's so sad, but they're strong and they've got a great supporting cast around them. I know I'm taking part in that as well. I've got their back. It's going to be a tough time, but we're going to get through it. We're all going to give back to the incredible life of Ashley Miklas and that's what she deserves."

On Saturday night, Domi and the rest of the Habs will be sporting lavender jerseys during warmups which will be auctioned off in support of Leucan, an organization supporting cancer-stricken children and their families as part of the League-wide Hockey Fights Cancer initiative.
The bottom right hand corner of the jerseys features a box where players can write the name of someone they're fighting cancer for, and Domi chose Ashley.
