MONTREAL - Julie Petry doesn't cut hair for a living, but she definitely has potential in that department.

The wife of Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry, and mother of three, recently took to YouTube to learn some basic skills before sons Boyd, 4, and Barrett, 2, became her very first #QuarantineCuts test subjects.
(Baby Bowen's hair didn't need a trim. He's just eight months old.)
Desperate times call for desperate measures after all, with Michigan salons and barbershops remaining closed through at least May 15 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Basically, their hair was just in their eyeballs," said Julie with a laugh. "It was just out of control, and I couldn't wait any longer to get them to a professional. And it's just hair, so it grows back. It's not a big deal."

Barrett

With that in mind, Petry opened a makeshift barbershop on the back patio complete with garbage bag capes and lollipops to reward her brave little soldiers once her masterpieces were complete.
She'd taken a buzzer to Boyd and Barrett's hair before during summertime, but this was her rookie experience with clippers in hand.
"We put a little water in a spray bottle and used my mom's needlepoint scissors," explained Julie. "That was my first time using the comb and pulling the hair through when trying to cut it on an angle so it's not choppy."
Barrett kicked things off in the barber chair. He sat calmly for approximately 45 minutes while Julie occasionally consulted YouTube for further direction.
"I took my sweet time on him, but Barrett was super chill. I kind of went back into my videos, and then I tried to copy the technique," mentioned Julie. "He was like my test run, I hate to say it."
Boyd wasn't exactly the most patient of customers, however. That's where the perfect distraction tool came in handy.
"I had to pull out the iPad to keep him focused and still," joked Julie. "I tried to get a little cute with his cut before I gave up, but then it was straight buzzer right away."

Apparently, Jeff was having a little fun at his better half's expense during the haircutting process.
Julie says "he was doing his bothering and interrupting [her] craft" from time to time, but that didn't stop her from helping him finish off a noticeable transformation of his own.
The veteran blueliner went super aerodynamic, so to speak, with his new look.

"Jeff did that on his own. I just cleaned it up and evened it out," confirmed Julie. "But I have zero control over what he does with his hair."
A little weekend fun
Julie was clearly feeling confident with her scissors when she went about cutting her own hair on Saturday.
After consulting Instagram for a quick lesson, and receiving the blessing of her Montreal hairstylist, Alexandre Messier, she just went for it.

And Jeff was happy to assist with the DIY effort.
He picked up the clippers and chopped away to put the finishing touches on Julie's new 'do.

We recently learned that Jeff could be headed for a career in the wine industry when he hangs up his skates someday, but he might've found himself a little side gig as well.

We'll just have to wait and see...
