MONTREAL – The Canadiens surrendered a six-spot in their home opener, falling 6-4 to the Carolina Hurricanes at the Bell Centre on Tuesday.

Zachary Bolduc scored twice for Montreal, while Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovsky also found the back of the net.

Martin St-Louis’ side came out firing, taking a 3-2 lead into the first intermission. But the momentum quickly shifted in the second period, as the defending Stanley Cup champions scored three unanswered goals to take a 5-3 lead.

Carolina added an empty-net goal late in the third to seal the win.

Jakub Dobes made 28 saves in the loss.
