MONTREAL – The Canadiens connected with the community to celebrate the return of Habs hockey on Tuesday.

During the pregame ceremonies at the 2026-27 Canadiens home opener, the team highlighted a pair of half-century milestones from two provincial institutions while placing the next generation of hockey fans and players in the spotlight.

Starting off the show was a choral rendition of “Je reviendrai à Montréal,” the classic Robert Charlebois tune originally released in 1976 that is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026. Charlebois himself appeared via video message to introduce the choir composed of 11- to 19-year-olds from Le Collège Vocal du Canada and led by Gregory Charles.

Last spring, Charlebois’ son, Jerome, notably recorded a hockey-themed cover of the song for the 2026 playoffs, and images from that run were projected on the ice during the performance.

Then, as player presentations got underway, the Habs were accompanied by 22 minor hockey players aged 8 to 12 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hockey Quebec. Founded in 1976, Hockey Quebec is the governing body of ice hockey in the province, and the players on hand represented 14 of its regional associations who continue to grow the game every year.
