BOSTON –– The Boston Bruins returned to the ice Wednesday afternoon at Warrior Ice Arena.

Head coach Marco Sturm still has his team practicing in two groups as training camp rolls on. The B’s are coming off two exhibition-game wins, beating the Washington Capitals 3-2 on Sunday and the Philadelphia Flyers 5-1 on Tuesday at TD Garden.

Boston will close out its preseason matchups on the road this week, playing the Flyers on Thursday and the Capitals on Friday at their respective home rinks.

Here are all the updates from Wednesday’s skate, with just six days until opening night.

Eyssimont Grounded in Preparation

Mikey Eyssimont made an impact against the Flyers, opening the scoring for the Bruins in the first period and closing out the contest with his second tally of the night at the end of the third.

“I’ve always prided myself on being able to score goals. Obviously, that’s not the main role that I serve in this league, but it definitely helps,” Eyssimont said. “It feels good. I try to go into every camp feeling really good…I think it just speaks to my preparation.”

The 30-year-old signed a two-year deal with the B’s in July 2025 and is battling for a bottom-six slot on the nightly roster. Eyssimont has been on the third line with Tanner Jeannot and Dans Locmelis for the first week of camp, including Wednesday’s practice with Group A.

“This season is the best I’ve felt, as far as my body feeling healthy, feeling explosive, feeling quick and powerful and healthy overall. It’s something I put a lot of time into,” Eyssimont said. “It’s not always adding things in and doing more and more and more. It’s easy to kind of get into that habit; you just get too tired. For me, it was taking things out, simplifying things, picking two or three things you really want to focus on.”

Brunet Continues to Impress

Frederic Brunet has been as advertised this training camp: speedy, mobile, and responsible with puck-moving and two-way play at the core of his game. The 23-year-old defenseman is the only Bruin who has competed in both of the team’s opening two exhibition games.

Brunet had two primary assists during Tuesday’s win, and logged one block and three hits through 21:45 of ice time in Sunday’s game while skating on the first pair with Charlie McAvoy.

“I talked to him today. He’s been excellent. He’s been exactly what we were hoping for. There are still ways to go, but we really like the way he started camp from day one and definitely how he played the last two games,” Sturm said. “It’s fun. I love kids like this who come in and kind of stir the pot a little bit and are willing to work and get better every day. It’s an exciting time for him, for sure, and also for us coaches.”

On Wednesday, Brunet practiced with Group B – alongside Lukas Reichel, Attilio Biasca, Riley Duran, Jake Schmaltz, Ivan Ivan, Brendan Gaunce, Joey Abate, Jordan Harris, Ty Gallagher, Max Guenette, Billy Sweezey, Jiri Patera and Simon Zajicek. Sturm did not want him to read into the placement, though.

“That’s what camp is all about. Sometimes you just move players, sometimes it’s an age thing, sometimes it’s numbers,” Sturm said. “I can’t put everyone in one group because otherwise I would have way too many guys out there. It doesn’t mean anything, and that’s what I tried to explain to him.”

Injury Updates

Matt Poitras did not skate on Wednesday due to a lower-body injury he sustained during practice on Tuesday, Sturm said.

“[Poitras] is day by day…Hopefully it’s not too bad,” he added. “Those kinds of short camps, you want to show, you want to deliver, you want to prove to coach, the team – whatever, you name it. And then if you get one injury all of a sudden with only a week to go, all of a sudden you’re behind. As a player, you don’t want that. That’s hard on the kid for sure.”

Mason Lohrei, who was in Group A with the NHL regulars, left practice early with an injury, too.

“He’s going to do some testing today,” Sturm said. “We’ll probably have an update tomorrow.”
