There is one thing the Bruins would like to do more than anything else against the Rangers tonight - other than win, of course. It is something they have yet to accomplish this season: score the game's first goal.
The Black & Gold, who will be playing the first of four straight road games, have fallen behind in all six games they have played this season and four times have dug themselves a 2-0 deficit. Boston has come back to win three of those contests, but the Bruins know it is not a trend that will lead to much success in the long run.
"We haven't scored first now in six games, so you're playing that kind of a game and the minute you give up a goal you're playing from behind," said Bruins coach Claude Julien following Tuesday night's 5-0 loss to Minnesota. "You've got to find a way to score that first goal, but at the same time I think we need to be much better without the puck and respecting that part of our game a little bit better.
"The mistakes or the lack of coverage or not being in the right place right now is doing a lot of damage to our game and it's hurtful at the end because you end up with this kind of a result."
Julien did not have an update on goalie Tuukka Rask (day-to-day) after last night's game, but did confirm after this morning's pregame skate that Zane McIntyre will start between the pipes against the Rangers.
