TEAM SNAPSHOTS

BLUES The Blues scored four goals on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets, but they gave up more in an 8-4 loss in their last game.
David Perron, Vladimir Tarasenko, Ryan O'Reilly and Pat Maroon scored in the loss.
"This is a tough one to swallow, especially after the effort we gave (in a 6-2 win against Nashville on Friday)," Blues captain Alex Pietrangelo said after the loss. "We've got to be ready to play. It's a back-to-back early game, we've got to be ready to play."
Beginning with Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, four of the Blues' next five games will be on the road. After Detroit, the Blues' road trip continues to Colorado and Arizona.
Alexander Steen will return to the lineup
after missing six games with an upper-body injury.

Vitale, Kerber preview Blues / Red Wings

RED WINGS The Detroit Red Wings didn't quit when the Columbus Blue Jackets led 5-1 in the second period on Monday at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit pushed and scored four more goals but eventually fell 7-5 to the Blue Jackets.
Anthony Mantha had two goals and an assist, and Jimmy Howard gave up three goals on 16 shots before being replaced by Jonathan Bernier in the game.
The loss was the Red Wings' third straight.
"I don't think we competed hard enough and we didn't execute when we had chances in the first period," Red Wings Head Coach Jeff Blashill told NHL.com. "I thought we played well enough to win our last two games. We deserved to lose this one."
Detroit is 10-11-3 this season, which ranks sixth in the Atlantic Division.
HEAD-TO-HEAD Wednesday's game will be the first of two matchups between the Blues and Red Wings this season. The second meeting is March 21 at Enterprise Center.
Wednesday's game is the 284th regular-season meeting between the teams, the Blues' third-most against any Eastern Conference team.
Last season, the Blues were 2-0-0 against the Red Wings, outscoring Detroit 8-2. The Blues have points in eight straight games against Detroit (4-0-4), which includes a three-game win streak.

Maroon, Steen, Schenn and Berube on facing Detroit

THEY SAID IT

Pat Maroon
On playing against the Red Wings
"It's going to be exciting. The Blackhawks series gets all amped up, so I'm excited to get this one going, too. It's too desperate teams going at it right now."
Brayden Schenn
On bouncing back
"I feel under Chief, we're playing hard. We're playing with emotion. We've definitely been a harder team to play against in two out of those three games."
Craig Berube
On implementing changes since taking over as coach
"I didn't go write down 10 or 12 things I want to change. I want to change the mindset of our team more than anything right now. We've obviously got to become a more consistent hockey team."
