The Columbus Blue Jackets and the National Hockey League are partnering to produce and distribute games via the Blue Jackets Hockey Network. The network will debut this fall with cable and satellite providers, along with streaming exclusively on Prime Video with a subscription and featuring a select number of games on over-the-air stations.
“Our priority is to make sure our fans have access to our games on television in all of the ways they have been accustomed to in the past and this new venture ensures that will happen,” said Blue Jackets Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Cameron Scholvin. “Whether you have watched games through a cable or satellite provider or on a streaming service, you will continue to be able to do so.”
Blue Jackets Hockey Network will broadcast all regular season games throughout the club’s television territory that are not exclusively televised by NHL national broadcast partners ABC, ESPN, ESPN+/Hulu and TNT.
Channel information on cable and satellite providers and specific offerings will be announced prior to the start of the regular season.
As announced by the NHL and Amazon today, in-market fans streaming on Prime Video will be able to watch locally at home or on the go, and across thousands of compatible devices, streaming via the web, or using the Prime Video app on smartphones, tablets, set-top boxes, game consoles and connected TVs. A Prime Video subscription for Blue Jackets Hockey Network content will be available for $19.99 per month or $99.99 annually.
The Blue Jackets television territory, which is determined by the NHL, includes most of Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky. Fans not in the Blue Jackets television territory can continue to watch with NHL Power Play on the ESPN App or NHL Center Ice.
Blue Jackets game broadcasts will feature Steve Mears (play-by-play), former Blue Jacket Jody Shelley (color analyst), former Blue Jacket Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre (pre- and post-game analyst), Brian Giesenschlag (host) and Dave Maetzold (ice level reporter/host). Live coverage will include a 30-minute pre-game show and post-game show.
Companies can contact the Blue Jackets directly for integrated sponsorship packages including television advertising reserved for major team partners. General advertising opportunities during games on Blue Jackets Hockey Network will be controlled by Mosaic Sports Media Group and Playfly Sports on the local and national level, respectively.
