The Blackhawks didn't get all that much rest between the end of the shortened 2013 NHL regular season and their Western Conference quarterfinals showdown with the Wild, so they were intent on making sure they'd have an extended breather before taking the next step.

Marian Hossa was a force with which to be reckoned for the Blackhawks in Game 5, potting two goals and adding an assist during a 5-1 victory over the Wild on May 9, 2013 at the United Center.

2013 REWIND

The win closed out the best-of-seven series for the Blackhawks, who were then able to sit back and watch another quarterfinals series where the Red Wings and Ducks were slugging it out for the right to head to Chicago for the conference semifinals.

"Sometimes it's fun to win in four games but sometimes when the other team is playing and you're resting too long I don't like to have that big a break," Hossa said. "So five games was perfect because it's between four and seven games. I liked winning the series 4-1."

The Detroit-Anaheim series went the distance, with the Wings prevailing in Game 7 before flying across the country to face the Blackhawks. Thanks to Hossa & Co., the Blackhawks got a full five days of rest and recuperation before they engaged in what turned out to be an epic Round 2 series against long-time rival Detroit.
