Gaglardi was honored by JDRF Greater Dallas at the 2017 Dream Gala on Saturday night and helped the organization raise over $1.4 million for this year's event with the help of Dallas Stars President and CEO Jim Lites, who served as the corporate chair for the evening.
"We are on the verge of defeating a disease that affects so many people in Canada - and around the world," said President and CEO of JDRF Canada Dave Prowten. "Each day, we are getting closer than ever to finding a cure and we are very grateful to Tom and his family for their generous contribution."
The $3 million gift will support JDRF's global efforts to advance international T1D research projects and foster collaboration of the best and brightest scientific minds working on encapsulation therapies to develop a cure for this disease. Through the JDRF Encapsulation Research Program, more than 50 scientists around the world are developing ways to generate or produce an unlimited supply of beta cells as well as incredible biotechnologies consisting of protective devices that can be implanted in people with T1D that shield beta cells from immune system attack.
