Every game is two 20 minute halves running time, unless stated otherwise by league/tournament rules. Teams will need to be on time and ready to go when the score clock starts.
Home team will supply someone to run the clock.
After A Goal is Scored
When a team scores a goal ALL three players from the scoring team must leave the zone and tag up on the opposing blue line before attacking the opposition. All three players must be tagged up before any attacking player enters the zone. If a player doesn’t tag and plays puck, team will be issued a warning, 2nd violation will be penalty.
High Stick/Hand Pass:
Unless a high stick or hand pass leads to an immediate goal, play will continue. Discretion and interpretation is always up to the referee.
Penalties:
Referees do their best. They also make mistakes. The Ice Barn is not the NHL, and we expect all players, parents, and fans to treat all officials and Ice Barn employees with the respect they deserve.
3v3 games and tournaments are designed to have fun and improve hockey skills and decision making. Clean play is expected of all players at all times. The on-ice official and Ice Barn management shall rule on all penalties.
The Ice Barn is a no-checking facility at all times. Safety always comes first at our facility. This rule will be strictly ENFORCED. The Ice Barn 3v3 Leagues and Tournaments follow USA Hockey rules regarding the type of penalties that are assessed.
Players committing a penalty must leave the ice for 1 full shift before returning to play.
3v3 hockey does not penalize penalties with 3v2 short handed power plays. All penalized players shall be replaced by a bench player to maintain 3v3 play on ice.
At the Mite level, offending players are not required to leave the ice due to the recurring 2 minute shifts.
All penalties are enforced by awarding the offended team a penalty shot. Players from both teams must line up inside both feet the far blue line. The shooter begins on the red line (mid-ice). Once the shooter touches the puck to begin the penalty shot, all other players treat the puck as “live”.
It is acceptable for the shooter to pass the puck or be caught by a defender. Once the shot occurs, if the player scores, refer to the “After scoring a Goal” rule.
If the penalty shot was not successful, the puck is played live.
Severe Penalties:
Severe penalties are not tolerated at the Ice Barn. They include, but are not limited to, checking from behind, fighting, roughing, and any severe misconduct as judged by the referee/Ice Barn management.
If a player receives a severe penalty that player will be immediately ejected from the game.
If a player receives two (2) major penalties in one game, that player will be immediately ejected from the game.
Ice Barn management and/or the on-ice official is empowered to take further disciplinary action if needed (i.e., forfeiture).
Rescheduling a Game:
There are no game changes, rescheduling or make-up games permitted. The league schedule is set well in advance. In the event of unscheduled rink maintenance issues, we will make-up any lost games to fulfill a full schedule for all teams.
All team coordinators will be required to notify the league director within at least 24 hours of the scheduled game if his/her team will not be attending a game. If a team does not show up for a game, the ice will be given to the team that will be there. Team coordinators that fail to follow these rules may be prohibited from future league/tournament play.
