The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Calle Sjalin and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forward Kyle Okposo, the team announced Friday.

The seventh-round pick will become a fifth-round pick in 2024 if Florida wins the Stanley Cup.

Sjalin, 24, has three assists in 22 games this season with the Charlotte Checkers. He has 11 points (5+6) in 61 career AHL games.

Sjalin – a native of Osterlund, Sweden – was a fifth-round draft pick (145th overall) by the New York Rangers in 2017. He previously played for Leksands IF of the SHL, where he was teammates with current Sabres prospect Isak Rosen.

Okposo played 516 games spanning eight seasons with the Sabres, the last two of which he spent as team captain. He earned a selection to the NHL All-Star Game in 2016-17 and was voted by fans as the recipient of the Rick Martin Award in 2021-22.
