Brady Tkachuk scores first goal of preseason for Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. – There might be a new City of Brotherly Love.

With the Florida Panthers on the power play in the first period of their preseason opener against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday night at Amerant Bank Arena, Brady Tkachuk took a pass from his brother, Matthew, and fired home a shot from the slot to make it 1-1.

For the star offseason addition, it’s a sign of things to come.

“A good feeling, but there’s a lot more room for growth,” Brady said during an interview with Scripps Sports sideline reporter Katie Engleson during the first intermission.

Acquired from Ottawa in a blockbuster trade in June, Brady led the Senators in goals (213), assists (463), points (463) and hits (1,747) over his first eight seasons in the NHL.

Getting settled in, he’s already starting to feel at home with the Panthers.

“It’s not even a sneaky awesome market anymore,” said Brady, who received a loud ovation from the home crowd during the starting lineup announcement. “Everyone knows how great a place this is to live and play, and the fanbase and everybody has been awesome.”
