EDMONTON, AB - The National Hockey League Trade Deadline is familiar territory for Oilers President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Ken Holland.
With less than a week until Trade Deadline Day, Holland fielded the media at Rogers Place to discuss his approach to the annual event and his outlook on the Oilers overall.
Holland began by confirming that he would like to help the squad by being a buyer but noted that there are facets to consider before pulling through with a deal. The Oilers General Manager admitted he is currently mulling his options.
"I would like to be active," Holland said.
"I'd like to pitch in. The guys in that locker room have worked extremely hard and the coaching staff to put us in this position. But I've also got to factor in the cost."
The Oilers President of Hockey Operations said explicitly he would not trade an Oilers first-round selection for a rental player at the Deadline.
"I don't see myself trading a first-round pick for a rental," he said.
