Zach Bogosian could miss the start of next season for the Buffalo Sabres after having hip surgery.

The 28-year-old defenseman is expected to need 5-6 months to recover.
He had 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 65 games this season and missed the final eight games of the season with a lower-body injury.
It's the second straight season Bogosian will have hip surgery. He had a season-ending procedure in February 2018.
Selected by the Atlanta Thrashers with the No. 3 pick of the 2008 NHL Draft, Bogosian has 189 points (52 goals, 137 assists) in 617 games with the Thrashers, Winnipeg Jets and Sabres. He's played more than 65 games twice in his 11 NHL seasons, and not since he played 71 with the Thrashers in 2010-11.
"I'd like to play all 82 [games]," Bogosian told the Sabres website during his end-of-season interview. "I think I took a step in the right direction, just playing more games and trying to find a routine that works. As an athlete, that's what you're always looking for, is something that works. I think I took a step in the right direction but there's still a lot of work for me ahead."
