Head Coach Dave Tippett has used Keller at left wing in his first two games. He said Keller, 18, needs to be patient as he makes the transition from college hockey to the NHL over the last two weeks of the season.
"It's going to be hard for him," Tippett said. "... He's a real smart, young player (and) he's real keen on what to do, but there's going to be some growing pains. That's the way it is with those young players ... We gave him a couple games here now. We'll revisit things tomorrow with a good Washington team coming in (on Friday) and see where it goes from there."
Keller is the eighth rookie to record his first NHL point while playing for the Coyotes this season.
"I think we can create offense with this group," Keller said. "We just have to be ready from the start and get pucks to the net and grind their 'D' down low. I think we have the potential in this room to create offense."
• Goalie Louis Domingue gave the Coyotes another strong outing, but his late-season winning streak ended.
Facing the Blues for the first time this season, Domingue stopped 40 shots, including 15 of 16 in the first period.
"Yeah, they had a lot of shots," Domingue said. "We came out down a goal (after one period) so it's not too bad, we just have to keep going. I thought we had some chances. We lost a one-goal game tonight. All in all, it wasn't our best game but (we) still managed to be around."
Tippett again liked what he saw from Domingue, who has stopped 183 of 194 shots over his past five starts.
"The past five or six games have been strong," Tippett said. "...Tonight he kept us in the game. He's played really well."
• The Coyotes lost all three games vs. St. Louis this season and were outscored 10-2.
"Not enough (offense), obviously," Tippett said. "We didn't generate enough tonight. That was a good lesson for a lot of our young players. (It) just shows how far we have to go. They're a good team. They don't allow you to get close to their net too much."
