GLENDALE --Trailing, 3-2, with 7:00 left in the third period against the Calgary Flames on Monday night, the Coyotes were given 1:45 of five-on-three power-play time.
Arizona failed to get a shot on net during the two-man advantage and eventually lost, 4-2, to start a five-game homestand at Gila River Arena with a thud.

"We have to get one there, for sure," defenseman Alex Goligoski said. "We weren't able to generate much. We had some rolling pucks that just kind of got everything out of sync and weren't really able to generate that high-quality chance."
After giving up just three power-play goals at home all season, the Coyotes gave up three in one game.
The third came with captain Shane Doan sitting in the penalty box for elbowing Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau at 12:15 of the third period. Calgary scored just 10 seconds into the power play to take a 3-2 lead.
Not long after that goal, the Coyotes were given a chance to create another tie but failed on the aforementioned five-on-three advantage.
"It's obvious that I didn't necessarily agree with (the elbowing call), but we got a five-on-three right after that and we didn't score," Doan said.

Head Coach Dave Tippett said the Coyotes had their chances.
"It was a special team night," Tippett said. "We didn't capitalize on ours and they did ... We made mistakes to put them on the power play so that's the biggest (problem). When you can't kill them, that complicates things a lot. The third part of it is when you can't kill them and then you get your power plays (and) you don't score. That's a bad trifecta."

• Center Martin Hanzal was a face-off machine vs. the Flames; he won 19 of 24 draws.
• Rookie Christian Dvorak notched a goal and an assist for the first multi-point game of his NHL career. He accomplished the feat in just 9:20, the lowest amount of ice time among the Coyotes.
• Newcomer Josh Jooris, playing in his first home game with Arizona, assisted on Dvorak's goal at 5:12 of the first period. It was his first point since joining the Coyotes via the waiver wire on Dec. 11. Center Peter Holland also played his first home game with the Coyotes.
• Forward Ryan White, who has been in and out of the lineup for the past week, scored Arizona's second goal at 9:07 of the third period. White harmlessly sent the puck at Flames goalie Brian Elliott from the right boards and it bounced over one of Elliott's pads and into the net.
"Elliott hadn't played that much in a while so we were trying to get some pucks on him and we got a good bounce," White said.
The goal was the second of the season for White and his 50th NHL point.

• Playing in his 300th NHL game, defenseman Michael Stone played 23:17, delivered five hits and blocked three shots.
• Rookie Brendan Perlini was a healthy scratch for the first time after playing eight games in a row after being recalled from the American Hockey League.
"He's got to play the game fast," Tippett said. "He's got the ability to get to people fast, create space fast, jump into holes like he did on that goal and then he's got the ability to score. So those are the traits he's got to bring every night now. There's some other things - puck battles, just smart plays with the puck along the wall, things like that - that he has to continue to improve on. But he's a real good young player with NHL speed."
