Capitals turn up the cuteness in Canine Puppy Playoffs

The Washington Capitals found the cutest way to get hockey fans ready for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Capitals turned up the postseason intensity with the Caps Canine Puppy Playoffs, a hockey game between two teams of dogs which aired Monday.

The 16-minute game, which was

, had all the passion of a playoff game and even came down to the final seconds. Evgeny Furznetsov was the hero when he came out of the penalty box, after being cited for ruffing, and scored the game-winning goal for in the Red Team's 5-4 win.

Alexander Ofetchkin was the game's No. 2 star, and Nicklas Barkstrom was the third star. The action was fierce, but Pheonix Puppley, the Red Team goalie, and defenseman Barks Orpik still managed to sneak in naps during play.
The puppies came from Homeward Trails Animal Rescue in Fairfax Station, Virginia, which seeks to find homes for dogs and cats rescued from low-income, rural shelters or whose owners can no longer care for them.
