Bruins win second straight under coach Bruce Cassidy

BOSTON-- Bruce Cassidy won his second straight game as Boston Bruins coach when they defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 at TD Garden on Saturday.
David Pastrnak scored the game-winning goal with 2:00 left after Markus Granlund tied it 3-3 with 5:37 remaining.

"They tied it, they didn't get the go-ahead goal," Pastrnak said. "So the win was still 50-50 and it's great we didn't sit back and we went after it. We had a couple good shifts after the goal and then it went for us and it was great."

Frank Vatrano tied his NHL high with three points (one goal, two assists), and Kevan Miller and Colin Miller scored for the Bruins (28-23-6). Boston lost two in a row before winning the past two games under Cassidy, who replaced Claude Julien after he was fired Tuesday. The Bruins defeated the San Jose Sharks 6-3 in Cassidy's debut Thursday.
Anton Khudobin made 29 saves and improved to 2-5-1 in his first start for Boston since Dec. 23. Khudobin's last win was a 2-1 shootout against the Carolina Hurricanes on Dec. 1, and this was the first regulation win by a Bruins goaltender other than Tuukka Rask.
"Let's be funny and sarcastic. Hopefully I'm going to get the third win earlier than the second," Khudobin said.
Bo Horvat and Alexandre Burrows scored, and Ryan Miller made 26 saves for the Canucks (24-25-6), who are 1-2-0 to start a six-game road trip.

"Yeah that's frustrating for sure," Canucks captain Henrik Sedin said. "We're in the battle for a playoff spot and to get one in here and have a chance to get two would have been big for us, but [Pastrnak] made a nice play down there to score that goal and ... not much you can do."
Horvat scored on a rebound at 4:56 of the first period to give the Canucks a 1-0 lead. The Bruins tied it 1-1 when Kevan Miller joined the rush and scored at 13:33 after a cross-ice pass from Ryan Spooner. Vatrano's power-play goal gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead with 38 seconds remaining in the period.
Burrows banked a backhand shot from the right side of the slot off Khudobin during a scramble around the net to tie it 2-2 with 0.6 seconds left in the second period.
Colin Miller's goal gave the Bruins a 3-2 lead 2:12 into the third period.

Goal of the game

Jimmy Hayes withstood a hip check along the boards from 6-foot-7 Vancouver defenseman Nikita Tryamkin and slid the puck back to the right point for Colin Miller's one-timer that got past goalie Ryan Miller.

Saves of the game

Khudobin knocked down Burrows' tip and then denied Horvat on the rebound with his right pad at 19:35 of the second period.

Highlight of the game

David Krejci got the puck to Pastrnak in stride at the Vancouver blue and he took it wide. Pastrnak made a move around Chris Tanev to the middle for a wrist shot from the left dot.

Unsung performance of the game

Hayes got the primary assist on Colin Miller's goal, but he also deserved credit for forcing Canucks defenseman Ben Hutton into the giveaway leading up to that score. Hayes didn't factor on the score sheet when Kevan Miller scored, but his net drive diverted the attention of the Canucks. Hayes played the least amount of ice time (8:18) for the Bruins.

Pastrnak has five goals and four assists during a four-game point streak, and his goal was the 100th point of his NHL career. ... Horvat's goal was his 100th NHL point. ... Forward Peter Cehlarik became the ninth Bruins player to make his NHL debut this season.
