Marner notches 400th career point in 3-point night

SEATTLE -- Mitchell Marner had a goal and two assists for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 6-2 win against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Monday.

Michael Bunting had a goal and an assist, and Jack Campbell made 23 saves for the Maple Leafs (31-12-3), who salvaged the finale of a three-game road trip after losses at the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames. Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Timothy Liljegren each had two assists.
"It's great to end this road trip off of the way," Toronto forward Alex Kerfoot said. "Obviously (it) didn't go the way we wanted to, but it was a good response coming here. You never want to come away empty-handed, so I thought we did the job tonight and we closed it out pretty good there in the third period without giving them a bunch."

Jared McCann scored his 20th goal of the season for the Kraken (16-29-4), who have lost their past three home games. Philipp Grubauer allowed three goals on 11 shots and was pulled after the first period. Chris Driedger made 11 saves in relief.
"We got down one came back and pushed the momentum our way," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "The critical turning point was the second goal against. We had momentum, it's a broken play and we weren't clean in exiting the zone. If you give them second opportunities or opportunities they haven't had to work for, you're going to get in trouble. For me, that was the key turning point even though it was early in the game."
The Maple Leafs were 2-for-2 on the power play and scored a shorthanded goal.
"I thought we were elite on special teams," Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. "The execution of the players just started with a high level today, especially. That was fun to watch. That really set us up to win the hockey game."
Kerfoot ended a 12-game goal drought at 3:56 of the first with a wrist shot from the edge of the left face-off circle to give the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead.
Calle Jarnkrok tied it 1-1 at 9:05 when he one-timed a pass from Mason Appleton in the right circle.
Bunting gave Toronto a 2-1 lead at 11:06 on a backhand after a pass from Matthews for his 15th goal of the season and sixth in seven games.
"He competes so hard, and it translates when you get down in front of the other goalie, he's been huge for us," Campbell said of Bunting. "He's just going to continue to keep that going and we love having him. He's such a warrior and just brings it every night. He's tough to defend as a goalie. He's in your face and really skilled around the net."

Ondrej Kase scored his 10th of the season at 14:03 on a redirection of Bunting's feed to make it 3-1.
Grubauer has allowed three goals in three of his past four starts. The Kraken were outshot 11-6 in the first period.
''At that point, you're at a point where you give up another one and now you're in a real deep hole, so (I) really just wanted to change the momentum and try to push the other way,'' Hakstol said of the goalie change.
Marner made it 4-1 at 9:15 of the second period with a shot from the right circle. It was his 400th NHL point.
"Obviously, it's a pretty cool achievement," Marner said. "I've obviously got to thank my parents, a lot of people around me; without them, this isn't possible."
David Kampf scored shorthanded at 3:37 of the third period off a backhand pass from Marner to make it 5-1.
McCann scored a power-play goal at 6:52 when his shot squeaked between Campbell's skates and trickled over the goal line to make it 5-2. It's the first time McCann has scored 20 goals in an NHL season.
"It's obviously very special," McCann said. "It's something I've worked very hard for, especially in the summertime. It's a dream come true to make it to the NHL, so I'm just trying to take advantage of it."
Jake Muzzin scored at 18:19 for the 6-2 final.
