The Penguins also signed defensemen Trevor van Riemsdyk (two years, $8 million) and Declan Carlile (two years, $3 million) to contracts on Wednesday.
Van Riemsdyk, 34, had 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 68 games for the Washington Capitals last season. Signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on March 24, 2014, van Riemsdyk has 161 points (28 goals, 133 assists) in 751 regular-season games for the Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and Capitals and six points (two goals, four assists) in 45 playoff games.
Van Riemsdyk won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2015.
Carlie, 28, had three points (one goal, two assists) in 42 regular-season games for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season and no points in two playoff games. He has four points (two goals, two assists) in 46 career games.
