Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored in his debut for the Carolina Hurricanes, a 3-1 preseason win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina on Tuesday.
Frederik Andersen made 36 saves in his Carolina debut. Kotkaniemi gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead 9:07 into the first period with a power-play goal. The forward was a restricted free agent who left the Montreal Canadiens on an offer sheet from Carolina. He had an assist on a power-play goal by Teuvo Teravainen that made it 2-0 at 17:01. Jack Drury scored for Carolina, which signed Andersen as a free agent this offseason. Alex Barré-Boulet scored, and Manny Lagace made 29 saves for Tampa Bay. The defending Stanley Cup champions played their preseason opener.
