Mason Mask

Steve Mason had no doubt who he was going to honor when it came time to design a new mask.

The Winnipeg Jets goalie missed 41 games this season because of three separate injuries, including 34 of 35 games from Jan. 12-April 2, so decided to pay tribute to the Jets employees who helped him through it.
Mason's new mask features six members of Winnipeg's athletic and training staff in cockpits of CF-18 fighter jets. One side has the three equipment managers, the other has the athletic therapists.

"It was his way to thank them because they took care of him during his recovery," said Sylvie Marsolais of Sylabrush, which made the design.
The new mask also features a silhouette of Mason's daughter, Emma, flying in the sky with balloons.
"We kept mainly the same graphics as his previous mask, with the Jets logo on the forehead [and his number] 35 on the chin, but this time we added more colors all over the mask," Marsolais said. "We also put a couple of rusty rivets on the Jets logo and 35 to match them with the CF-18 fighter jets body."
Mason, 29, was 5-6-1 with a 3.24 goals-against average, .906 save percentage and one shutout in 13 games (12 starts) backing up Connor Hellebuyck during the regular season.
If all goes well for the Jets, who are lead the Nashville Predators 2-1 in the best-of-7 Western Conference Second Round, perhaps the mask will need an update with the Stanley Cup.
Game 4 is at Bell MTS Place on Thursday (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVAS).
