David Perron STL

With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League's 31 teams.
Today, a fantasy recap of the St. Louis Blues at the pause:
NOTE: Rank for most-valuable fantasy player is based on standard-category production to date.

Fantasy MVP: Jordan Binnington, G (rank: 36) -- With high fantasy expectations following a dominant regular season and Stanley Cup title as a rookie with the Blues, Binnington has 30 wins, third in the NHL behind Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning (35) and Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets (31). Binnington, who has three shutouts, is among the NHL leaders in starts (50; sixth) and is tied for fourth in goals-against average (2.56) among the 22 goalies who have played at least 40 games. St. Louis leads the Central Division and ranks fifth in goals allowed per game (2.68) thanks to Binnington and quality backup Jake Allen.

Biggest surprise: David Perron, LW/RW -- One of the fantasy steals of the season (average draft position outside top 150), Perron has taken advantage of an expanded role after the long-term injury to elite right wing Vladimir Tarasenko (shoulder). Perron has seized a first power-play role and has NHL career highs in power-play goals (nine) and points (27; T-8th in NHL). He is second on the Blues in scoring (60 points) behind frequent linemate Ryan O'Reilly (61), leads them in PPP, is tied with forward Brayden Schenn for most goals (25), and is second in shots on goal (166) behind defenseman Alex Pietrangelo (225).

Unsung hero: Colton Parayko, D --The Blues are one of three NHL teams to have two defensemen with at least 10 goals (Pietrangelo, 16; Parayko, 10); the others are the Montreal Canadiens (Shea Weber, 15; Jeff Petry, 11) and the Lightning (Victor Hedman, 11; Mikhail Sergachev, 10). Parayko provides strong category coverage at a scarce position with a plus-8 rating, 162 SOG (tied for third on Blues) and 87 hits (leads St. Louis defensemen). He's averaging 23:00 of ice time per game, second behind Pietrangelo (24:11).
